Allergy free flowers

For weddings and other big occasions, it is very important to have flowers which contain little or no pollen so that the couple and the guests don 't start sneezing and sniffing in the middle of the wedding. Daisy-related type flowers, daisies, gerbera, chrysanthemums, asters, dahlias, and sunflowers are better avoided unless cross-checked to make sure that they contain no pollen. Some chrysanthemums, dahlias and asters that are called formal doubles do not possess pollen. If Baby's Breath is used, it is advisable to use the double flowered types.

Florist type hybrid tea roses that are still in a closed bud stage and low on fragrance will shed no pollen and are allergy free flowers. Roses in the bud or half-open stages, with healthy green leaves generally contain less pollen. Some free-flowering garden roses, such as the beautiful pale pink ‘Cecile Brunner’ roses, are always allergy-free and produce no pollen at all. The Banksia roses, which will be either yellow or white, are small, cute, come in dense sprays, and are also pollen free. Pots of blooming hydrangeas, especially of the old-fashioned Hydrangea macrophylla type, blooming double tuberous begonias, formal double type camellias, the brightly colored 'Reigers' are great choices for those suffering from pollen. With their pollen removed, lilies are allergy free flowers. But the sap from lilies can cause itchy skin rashes. Orchids generally don't cause allergies but it's wise to look out for skin rashes.

Tulips and Daffodils will normally shed very little pollen, but the smallest flowered types of daffodils, often sold as Narcissus, many of these have a powerful, sometimes almost obnoxious fragrance, and these are to be avoided. It's always better to be careful about their sap too. Pots of growing pansy, viola, and impatiens make great décor and are all very low allergy potential flowering plants. Bougainvillea flowers are the most coveted allergy free flowers which are perfect for those prone to pollen and/or scent allergies.
