Ginkgo

Ginkgo is a much-prescribed, much-used herbal remedy for allergies and also numerous other diseases and disorders. The leaf extract of the ginkgo tree contains certain rare substances (ginkgolides) that reduces the amount of platelet-activating factor (PAF) produced by the body. PAF plays a significant role in causing allergies, as well as asthma and inflammation. So, by reducing the production of PAF, ginkgo prevents allergies rather than curing them. Doctors usually prescribe 60 to 240 milligrams of standardized extract a day. If taken in large doses, ginkgo can trigger off diarrhea, irritability and restlessness.

Ginkgo has been found to be useful for chronic respiratory allergies, including asthma. Ginkgo has been pronounced useful for early-stage Alzheimer's, multiple infarct dementia (memory changes caused by "mini strokes"), age-related depression, stroke (blood clot) prevention, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), glaucoma, impotence (erectile dysfunction; ERD), multiple sclerosis, vascular insufficiency etc.

Ginkgo is also used to treat limping due to insufficient peripheral blood flow (disorders of peripheral circulation, or intermittent claudication), memory loss due to general mental deterioration (dementia) or physical disorders that cause a decrease in mental function (organic brain syndrome) and dizziness (vertigo) and ringing in the ears (tinnitus), originating from insufficient blood supply to the inner ear. However, ginkgo sometimes causes skin allergies as a side effect.

During springtime, many people suffer from an allergy called hayfever , the symptoms of which are watery, bloodshot eyes, congestion, and a sore nose from sneezing over and over again. Ginkgo is great for those prone to hayfever. Ginkgo Bilboa comes in easy to use tablets, capsules, or teas.
