Feverfew

Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) or Chrysantheim parthenium is a traditional medicinal herb which grows abundantly in many old gardens, and is also occasionally grown for ornament to decorate Christmas trees. Feverfew also has several medicinal properties. It has been proven to provide relief from migraine headaches. However, feverfew is also useful in allergy treatments. However, as feverfew leaves have a horrendous taste,it is better to take feverfew tablets or other commercial preparations.

A locally applied Feverfew tincture provides quick relief from pain and swelling caused by insect bites. It is also known to reduce toothache and neuralgia, chronic headaches, arthritis, colitis fever, menstrual problems and muscle tension.

Feverfew is known to produce a sedative effect. So it might be useful as a relieving agent in cases of severe allergies and pains.

It is advised that pregnant women avoid feverfew because it might trigger miscarriage. And women who are nursing should not use it because of the possibility of passing the herb to infants via milk.
