Established in 1997 by a gift from the Jaffe Family Foundation, the Mount Sinai- The Jaffe Food Allergy Institute is directed by Hugh A. Sampson, MD, who is internationally recognized allergy specialist and investigator of food allergy. The mission of the institute is to expand as well improve comprehensive patient care, the basic science and clinical research, and educational efforts in food allergy. Mount Sinai- The Jaffe Food Allergy Institute has been the first one to describe disorders like Brill’s Disease, collagen disease, Buerger’s Disease, Crohn’s disease, Tay-Sachs disease, Libman-Sacks disease, eosinophilic granuloma of bone, Moschcowitz disease, Glomus Jugalare Tumor, and Churg-Strauss disease.
